The Project

The Connaught Hotel enjoys a unique place among luxury hotels of the world; it combines the reassurance of traditional English craftsmanship with the contemporary amenities expected by the modern traveller. The contract to design the hospitality uniforms was a renewal of a long-standing relationship; Fashionizer first designed uniforms for the hotel in 2008 and created uniforms for the Aman Spa at the Connaught in 2011. Bespoke uniforms were required for the award-winning Hélène Darroze Restaurant, the iconic Coburg Bar, plus in-room dining services. The brief was to design the luxury hotel uniforms in line with the hotel’s heritage, blending traditional and contemporary influences and maintaining the individuality of each service area.

Fashionizer’s Solution

Our overall design concept showcases The Connaught’s image as a destination hotel in the heart of one of London’s most exclusive and fashionable districts, Mayfair. The bespoke uniforms combine the luxury of velvet with sleek satin accents. For the female staff we designed glamorous black hostess dresses with an individual square-shaped neckline, satin shoulder panels and blue velvet belt detailing. For the male staff we created Caspian blue velvet jackets with satin lapels – giving a traditional dinner jacket a fresh twist – combined with tailored trousers in high quality charcoal grey wool. The look is accessorised with burnt orange bow ties which pick up on the colour scheme of the interior.

The Connaught management challenged us to achieve a balance between tradition and modernity. In addition, we had to ensure that the uniforms fitted the practical demands of running a busy London hotel Food & Beverage department.
