The Project

The InterContinental Westminster (currently Conrad London St James) in London approached Fashionizer to provide its uniforms because of our track record. We had just completed a very successful launch for the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, and General Manager Andrew Coney was impressed. He wanted the same bespoke approach and luxury feel of the uniforms to emphasise the positioning of the InterContinental as a destination hotel. Furthermore, he needed a company that could interpret the historic importance of the building.

Originally built as three townhouses in the 18th century, the hotel is close to the Houses of Parliament. Due to its historic location and the heritage of the building, a sympathetic approach to the hotel’s uniform design was especially relevant.

Fashionizer’s Solution

The brief for the InterContinental project was British style with political ambitions. Fashionizer delved into the archives in order to capture the essence of the Houses of Parliament. We then added a modern twist, an important factor for a hotel in central London. Our designs took their inspiration from the outfits of some of the great Parliamentarians in British history. This brought us to former Prime Minister Mrs Thatcher and her signature ‘pussy cat bow’, while the the men’s bow ties reflect parliamentary tradition of ‘dandyism’.

Classic tailoring, a contemporary silhouette and a hint of the great ‘English eccentrics’ is the result. Finally, Fashionizer completed the project within a tight budget and critical path.
