Dedicated followers of Graduate Fashion Week
Reading Time: 2 minutesIt’s just over a week to go until the start of Graduate Fashion Week, where the young, passionate and determined designers of the future will be showcasing the results of three or four years of work and study.
Nurturing young talent is something that is close to our heart at Fashionizer Couture Uniforms, and our MD Debbie and our sample room manager Baharak are keen to see the creative influences that are shaping the thoughts of new designers. GFW has an impressive track-record in spotting new talent: previous winners of the Gold award include Stella McCartney and Julian Macdonald.
We do confess to having a vested interest as we are currently on the hunt for a number of fashion graduates to work on a project in London and Dubai. It’s a tough world out there for graduates trying to get a start in their chosen industry, and we’ll be sifting through the GFW portfolios – but with 40 universities and more than 1000 students exhibiting there should be some candidates out there. Sewing skills are at the top of our list this time as the job in question involves fitting and alterations.
We’ll also be keeping an eye open for one of our former interns. Charlotte Byrne worked at Fashionizer last year and left to complete her final year in fashion design at the University of Northumberland. There was a winner from her university last year – the Ethical Award. That’s got to be a good sign.
