Bespoke uniforms for the St Pancras by Fashionizer Couture Uniforms

The Project

One of London’s most iconic landmarks, the St Pancras building, with its fairy-tale façade, was designed by celebrated architect Sir George Gilbert Scott as the Midland Grand Hotel. Now it has been transformed into a luxury five-star London hotel like no other, and Fashionizer created the uniforms for its opening. The St Pancras Renaissance Hotel unites Victorian splendour with contemporary style.

Fashionizer completes around three new hotel openings a year and they are always challenging. Even though this was Fashionizer’s 32nd new opening, the responsibility to make an impact with the hotel uniforms for this unique hotel property was a large one. Furthermore, the tight lead time available for the weaving of the many bespoke fabrics added additional processes. The results, however, speak for themselves.

Fashionizer’s Solution

An iconic building needs uniforms that make a statement. This starts with the detail. For St Pancras Renaissance, we used English wool in a specially woven herringbone for the suits, with geometric images from the original flooring tiles providing the inspiration for the jacquard patterns on the ties. Use of sympathetic colours, including rich browns, highlighted the intricate wooden panelling. Barlow Blue, a colour named after the designer of the original St Pancras station, referenced the steel blue girders throughout. The door staff and porters’ uniforms feature rows of  ‘Midland Railway dragon’ gold buttons, which Fashionizer designed specially, alongside traditional collars and deep cuffs with bespoke cufflinks. In addition, a gold pocket watch and brown bowler hat added a final ‘London touch’ to the look.

We delivered all the uniforms on time and to budget to great critical acclaim from the management, staff and press.
