The Brief
The exclusive tropical hideaway of Laucala Island Resort is located on a remote private island in Fiji, where lush rainforests meet pristine white sand beaches. Here, 25 Fijian-styled villas are beautifully situated amid hillside coconut plantations with spectacular views. Laucala has established a number of organic farms and gardens, supplying the resort’s restaurants with fresh produce and the spa with exotic flowers and spices.
Fashionizer was commissioned to design an exclusive collection of high-value merchandise, taking inspiration from hand-painted watercolours depicting the island’s remarkable flora and fauna.
Fashionizer's Uniform Solution
The Fashionizer design team digitised a series of ten original watercolours featuring vivid tropical flowers, fish, octopuses and birds. These were incorporated into a range of exclusive textile prints, applied using digital printing technology onto a variety of fabrics — among them a gossamer-light silk and cotton weave, which was crafted into sarongs. These exclusive, luxurious pieces are available only at this exclusive resort and include swimwear, robes and shirts.
The Outcome
Fashionizer has developed an extensive portfolio of original textile prints over the years; textile design is one of its most distinctive capabilities and a key reason a client such as Laucala sought out the company for this project.
What distinguished this brief was the use of original watercolours as the creative foundation; the delicate colour and transparency of each painting had to be faithfully preserved through the textile design process and across the quality of printing on a variety of materials. The resort’s ambition was to invest in pieces of genuine quality, worthy of their discerning VIP clientele — and the results are nothing short of beautiful.
